Hey, thanks for the shout! I'm always delighted whenever something that was once inside my brain is now playing around inside someone else's. Also, onions are delicious, and I think about them as a metaphor way too often.

Onions are an easy metaphor for characterization for sure. For what else do you use them for a metaphor? (And I love the idea of leaving the door ajar—as a “plantser” I prefer to plant a seed and let it all grow a bit before I decide what to keep and what to weed out!)

I love the "ajar" conceptualization so much. It's not a good idea to leave absurdity wide open - you get way too much noise, nonsense, conspiracy theories, and misleading trails. Leave it shut, though, and you never get any glimpse of the utterly unexpected.

Onion-wise, I'll just say that we used to tie and onion around my belt, which was the style at the time.

Thank you so much for the shout-out :) I love love LOVE onions but I try to be wary when I eat them. I go crazy with them when I know I'm home for 48 - 72 hours 🤣

I sauteed my onions a lot with spices.

Enjoyed the read and the stories. Thank you for sharing.

What’s your go to spices for sautéing? Your post this week also made it to my saved list!

Heavily Caribbean influenced -

My standard spices include cumin, ginger, scorpion or scotch bonnet peppers, thyme, turmeric, molasses, black pepper, ginger, chives..............

Ooh, thank you.

I am testing different types of content, and I am noticing a trend.

People are tired of the usual BS, and they want a "different" perspective.

Such funny stories! I'm the complete opposite. I used to hate raw onions so much that even a tiny amount would activate my gag reflex. It's both a taste and texture issue for me. I still hate raw onions, but I've come to appreciate the flavor that cooked onions can impart... though I'll still pick them out of the finished dish!

Rhinelander! My dad is from Antigo and my mom is from Elcho. I camped as a kid in your area. And I miss Friday night fish fries and supper clubs with pickled appetizers.

I’ll have to ask my mom about Antigo and Elcho (I was little when we moved to Eau Claire first, then Oshkosh).
