Fabulous post. I can totally relate to the experience of visiting an adult child ‘on the cheap,’ which ends up being anything but! lol (Although to be fair, on my last trip, my youngest sneakily went and paid the dinner check at a nice restaurant!)
I really enjoyed your notes for future cons :)
And I found your comparison of the hero’s and heroine’s journey fascinating. Can’t wait to read the upcoming post about how Tessa’s story may unintentionally explore a heroine’s journey :)
Thanks for the mention! I have loved being part of the Weather Reports collab and reading a whole bunch of new-to-me authors because of it! And it was so interesting to read about your experience at WorldCon!
I just made it to your Weather Reports story. So good! You paint a wonderfully complex character who I want to see find her joy despite her increasingly bleak trajectory. Brilliant!
Of course! Finding, reading, and sharing new-to-me authors has been an unexpected perk of my Substack journey. I’m looking forward to digging into more of your posts.
I love Seattle. In one of my past lives in a big agency, we had T-mobile as a client so I was flying up to Seattle every other week. Spent a good chunk of my free time roaming the Olympic Mountains. Crazy beautiful place that I would love to get back to.
Sounds like an amazing time. Thank you for the mention, friend. ❤️
I smiled at your description of 'free' lodging that comes with buying all the meals and groceries. hehehehe
Travel brings families together, even when it involves sleeping on air mattresses and managing Seattle traffic. Your son probably loved having you there.
It was a great weekend! And we will happily pay for the weekend’s fun. Even if he makes me march straight up a mountain. Maybe I’ll talk about that in next week’s post! 🚶🏼♀️➡️ 🏔️
We lived for a couple of years under the flight path in San Diego. We could count the rivets on the landing planes. At least San Diego had a curfew back then (don't know about now).
Thanks for the mention, and I'm super happy to hear you've been enjoying Mars Fire thus far. Hopefully the story progression keeps you engaged as it takes off over the coming weeks (there will probably be 100+ chapters at this point, with one releasing every Friday).
Great notes for book events! I hope to use them again, soon. Loved how you time the planes lol. Oddly, I would’ve enjoyed that, but that’s mostly because as a kid I grew up next to train tracks. Left the window open because I loved the sound of the train reeling by when I was drifting to sleep :)
I listened to crickets bouncing of the canal wall (which I included in Shattered). I spent my freshman year of college in DC and came home and found the quiet too quiet after all the city noise! I’ve been wondering what little tidbits from your life you’ve woven through The Exiled…

Thank you so much! I do believe she will eventually find joy, somewhere!
Thanks for mentioning my story! I'd never heard of the heroine's journey before. Very interesting stuff.

I agree, Seattle is a great place to visit and explore! And I should really take advantage of the “free” accommodations more regularly.
Your weather report was so good!!!
Hahaha "free" - that had me laughing out loud. 🤣
Thanks for the kind words, CB.
If we were speaking in person, face to face, you would have said it while doing air quotes 🤷🏻♀️
🤣

I look forward to reading it.
It’s almost Friday and I am looking forward to the long weekend. 🤗
First off, this entire post was amazing! Second, thank you for the kind words about my serial. ❤️
First off, thank you. 😊 Second, highly deserved!

Wow! That sounds way too close!!!

Good to know I’ll have a lot more of your world-building to explore!
