Behind the scenes
I was hoping to announce this week that the next FREE novella was on the way, but it is taking a little longer than expected. I’m deep in the weeds of Merged, book two of the Forged series, which is taking all my mental energies at the moment.
It’s true, I was thinking that major edits were behind me, but the last set of comments from the publisher has me amping up the tension, trimming the loose threads, and crossing all the ‘T’s, dotting all the ‘I’s.
Basically, making Merged even better than before!
The great news is that by trimming some of the scenes, not only will I tighten the overall word count, but I will also have ample material to trickle out to you, dear readers. *rubs hands and laughs maniacally.
You don’t have to wait to keep reading
Have you downloaded your copy of Shattered: Isaiah’s Side? It is available now!
Plus, Shattered: Lost Sessions is queued up and awaiting a final polish before it is released as the second of three FREE novellas.
Next on the task list is the fine-tuning of Shattered: The Rise of Julia, the final FREE companion novella before Merged is released!
But remember… The novellas have a Spoiler Warning! 𝘋𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 Shattered.
This post is public, so feel free to share it. (Someone in your community might be interested too!)
Final Word
Keep an eye out for Street Team sign-ups for ARC of Merged, followed by its release later this spring. As of right now, sign-ups should happen in mid- to late March. That means if you haven’t yet read Shattered (and all three of the companion novellas), there is plenty of time to catch up!

About CB Mason
I’m a fan of dystopian tales with strong female leads, and I believe that the written word has a powerful impact—we see ourselves in the stories, learn from the characters’ mistakes, and gain the tools necessary to use in our own lives.
I love engaging with readers and writers, so drop a comment below! And follow me on Instagram and Facebook.
Then be sure to check out Shattered, book one of the Forged series, now available in paperback and eBook! Here are the locations where you can buy yourself a copy.
What I’m reading
Besides keeping up with several serials on Substack, here are my current “off the ‘Stack” reads:
It’s Not Weird to Say I Love You - Meg Oolders is starting to share a serial novel, and it’s GOOD! All the high school angst and awkwardness you remember from your own years as a high schooler. She’s just started sharing, so hop on board now to follow along.
Darkley - a fantasy set in the near future that mixes the FBI and magic, as authorities hunt for a serial killer and track down those abusing dark magic. I’ve been following along with Kinley’s adventures for both the first and second seasons. Kinley is getting mixed up in some pretty terrorifying stuff… and it’s not simply the paranormal world that I’m talking about! Pick up Darkly, Case File: Omega or hop into the current season here.
Salome - Hanna Delaney is giving us a backstory of a character soon to cross paths with Inspector Muldoon of her Muldoon series. I’ve read both The Spider and The Ring, excellent Gothic Horror novels set in late-1800s Liverpool. I can’t wait for Muldoon to meet Sister Salome! You can pick up copies of the first two books at Tiny Worlds Publishing.
The Inheritor’s Screams - I recently found and binged this serial, part of the Dremiks universe by Cassandra Davis, a delightful introduction that had me add the novel Dremiks to my TBR. (I’ll get to it after I make it through the lauch of Merged…)
Smoke-Mouth - I finally caught up on S.E. Reid’s supernatural dystopian adventure set against the backdrop of Mount St. Helens after major catastrophic events affect the Pacific Northwest (and other parts of the world). Luck for us, Sally’s planned 10-episode serial is at part 16 now (and we have yet to reach the conclusion)!

Editing is never done!
Thank you for the shout-out. I'm so glad you enjoyed my work. I thought I'd read "Shattered" but I cannot seem to find it on my devices, so I'll be buying a copy ASAP.
